Territory in geography section

[edit]

In the last sentence of the first paragraph of the geography section, Germany's area is mentioned as 357,600 km2 (138,070 sq mi), which is obviously the rounded figure, as opposed to the exact figure given in the infobox. I think both figures should be consistent, preferably using the precise one for both. Also, there's no source for how much of Germany's total area makes up its land and how much its water area, respectively. Maxeto0910 (talk) 18:41, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request

[edit]

In the intro sentence, please add that Germany is a county in Western and Central Europe. Several sources have had Germany grouped as Western Europe. https://esa.un.org/MigFlows/Definition%20of%20regions.pdf https://archive.org/details/politicsinwester00hanc_0 2600:100C:A218:9A7B:E879:81B4:EADF:A345 (talk) 21:38, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of Notable Figures

[edit]

Add Albert Einstein and create a list of Notable Figures, due to Germany's long history and significant scientific contributions that are well documented and are not WP:NOR to list. --WikiNerd202224 (talk) 08:56, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Such lists (and almost all laundry lists) are clutter—pointless at best, infuriating at worst—when included in encyclopedia articles, though. Doesn't List of Germans suffice? Remsense ‥  09:01, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"offers social security, a universal health care system, and tuition-free university education"

[edit]

This applies to almost all developed countries, especially in Europe. Emphasizing this explicitly seems rather trivial and reads a bit awkward, as if we couldn't think of anything more notable or interesting about Germany to write in the lead. Maxeto0910 (talk) 03:37, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I actually agree..... what would be notable if the country didn't like the United States. Moxy🍁 03:40, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Add Minority languages

[edit]

Every other country has them listed on their page, why should Germany be the Exception. Japan has Ainu listed United Kingdom Has all of its minor languages recognised, and we even have a bit for these minority languages on the language bar. how is adding it unconstructive? Gorgonopsi (talk) 18:52, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's a hollow argument merely to point to other pages, cf. WP:OTHERCONTENT. In addition, infobox parameters do not need to be populated just because they exist and are theoretically applicable—quite the contrary. The current presentation seems totally adequate, and you would ideally make a positive argument in terms of to best summarize the corresponding content in the article body, which is the purpose of an infobox. Remsense ‥  18:55, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Including minority languages such as Sorbian, Frisian, and Romani highlights Germany's rich cultural tapestry. rather than the very homogenous picture not having it paints. Highlighting minority languages encourages multilingualism and shows the value of learning and preserving languages, Incorporating minority languages can enhance the educational value of the article, providing readers with a broader understanding of Germany's cultural and linguistic landscape. Gorgonopsi (talk) 00:41, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Giant lists in the infobox don't aid our readers of j understanding.... in my view it's even more confusing. The more languages there are the less they should be placed in the info box and explained in the article to give a cultural context. Moxy🍁 00:46, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We don't seek to "highlight" our favorite or most valued aspects of a topic, but achieve editorial balance in what elements we include and how we present those elements, lest we start attempting to right what we see as great wrongs. Remsense ‥  00:53, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
